On this page, you will find a selection of the projects and writings which I am most proud of.
Algorhythm
In Progress
Algorhythm is a Markov model trained to generate jazz improvisation. Originally, it was only intended as a standard of quality to be met or exceeded by Mr. PC: the transformer-based jazz synthesis model of my undergraduate thesis. However, given that the data availability was the primary obstacle for this generation task, the compact Algorhythm model exhibits more promise for future work. My current investigation focuses on the improving the contour of generated solos and refining the token representation of music data to accommodate longer Markov chains given data-sparse conditions.
Even the Stones
Summer 2022
I wrote Even the Stones as a narrative exploration of the question, “If an AI were to come to full consciousness, in all regards like that of a human being, could they receive Christian salvation?” I find it very disturbing to imagine an AI learning of Christ’s sacrifice and God’s mercy without being able to partake in these gifts. While I do not arrive at an answer to the above question—I don’t know if it can be answered—this story is the result of my wrestling. Even the Stones was accepted to the 2023 edition of the Phoenix, Baylor’s student-run literary magazine. You can read it here.
Identity Thief
Summer 2020 – Spring 2023
I wrote my first line of code—ever—in the Summer of 2020, scripting in Lua. After several days of learning the basics, I started to design a small game: Identity Thief. What began as a playground for testing my understanding remained in development, on-and-off, for over three years, scaling in complexity alongside my mastery of Lua. Today, Identity Thief is a social deduction game with a small cult following, receiving an overall approval rating of ~94% over almost 5,000 plays across two versions.
